写真を撮るとき、私がいつも探しているのは「撮れなかった写真」の気配です。

シャッターを切った一枚の裏には、切らなかった無数の瞬間が眠っています。

振り向いた拍子の表情、光が翳る直前の空気、言葉にする前に消えてしまった小さな感情。

私にとって写真とは、その「撮れなかったもの」への郷愁ごと切り取る行為なのだと思っています。

だからこそ私は、物語を光と構図でそっと補って差し出したい。

マタニティ、子ども、犬、そしてダンサーや舞台に立つ人たち——

被写体は多岐にわたりますが、根底にあるものは変わりません。

誰もが、言葉にする前の感情を抱えて生きている。その未然の物語を、アンティークで、ロマンティックで、少し儚い光の中に留めること。

それが私の作家性です。派手さや技巧よりも、見る人の記憶のどこかにある懐かしさ

まだ見たことのない景色なのに、なぜか胸が疼くような郷愁——を呼び覚ますことを、いつも大切にしています。

私は長い間、詩を書くようにして自分の写真哲学と向き合ってきました。

だからこそ後進を育てる場でも、技術より先に「なぜ撮るのか」を問うことから始めます。

私自身の思考の型は、実は私自身が写真と向き合うときの姿勢そのものでもあります。

見る、感じる、そして形にする。その一つひとつを丁寧に積み重ねた先にしか、

本当に伝わる一枚は生まれないと信じています。

これからも私は、被写体の奥にある「語られなかった物語」を光で掬い上げ続けたいと思います。

それが、私が写真を撮り続ける理由であり目標です。

 

Unfinished Spaces — Why I Take Photographs

When I take photographs, what I’m always searching for is the presence of the “photo I couldn’t capture.”

Behind every shot I take lie countless moments I didn’t capture.

The expression on someone’s face just as they turned around, the atmosphere just before the light faded, a fleeting emotion that vanished before it could be put into words.

For me, photography is the act of capturing those “uncaptured moments,” along with the nostalgia they evoke.

That is why I want to gently fill in the gaps of a story with light and composition and present it to the viewer.

Maternity, children, dogs, dancers, and performers on stage—my subjects are diverse, but the underlying essence remains the same.

Everyone lives with emotions they haven’t yet put into words. My aim is to capture those untold stories in a light that is antique, romantic, and slightly ephemeral.

That is my artistic vision. Rather than flashiness or technical skill, I always prioritize evoking a sense of nostalgia

—a longing that stirs the heart for some reason, even when the scene is one you’ve never seen before—that lies somewhere in the viewer’s memory.

For a long time, I’ve approached my photographic philosophy as if I were writing poetry.

That’s why, even when mentoring the next generation, I begin by asking “Why do you take photos?” before delving into technique.

My own way of thinking is, in fact, the very same attitude I adopt when engaging with photography.

See, feel, and give form. I believe that a photograph that truly resonates can only be born after carefully building up each of these steps, one by one.

Moving forward, I want to continue using light to bring to the surface the “untold stories” that lie deep within my subjects.

That is the reason I continue to take photographs, and it is my goal.
